Alberobello, Southern Italy
As Wikipedia claims : ”Alberobello houses were the first trulli which contributed to the expansion of the settlement. Building the houses of dry stone was a requirement of Count Giangirolamo II as this way it was avoidable to pay taxes on them.”
Impressive roofs, cute houses , up and down cobbled streets and a medieval, but more friendly than usual, atmosphere is the most succinct description that can be written!
11.000 population lives around the area and some of them are polite enough to invite you at their rooftops that you can enjoy the view! However, the best is to stay in one of these white cone-roofed houses, to be a true-trulli-inhabitand for a few days! 50km from Bari and 45′ by train are fair enough for the Italian Smurf Village!
And what if you need to end up the day with a dinner?
